On 23 September 2025, the Presidents of Churches
Together in England issued a statement
expressing “deep concern about the symbols and words
of the Christian faith being co-opted to support messages
that breed hostility towards others”.

The statement was clear and unequivocal:
“The Cross and the Gospel of Christ must
never be co-opted to support messages
that breed hostility towards others.”

Since then, many Christians, who are committed to
the peaceful coexistence of communities and to strong
interfaith relationships, have sought constructive ways
to respond. Church ministers engaged in dialogue with
those attending the Unite the Kingdom Christmas Carol
Service in December 2025. The Church of England also
launched a public campaign featuring a nativity scene
at a bus stop accompanied by the message: “Outsiders
welcome. Whatever your story, Christmas starts with
Christ”, shared under the hashtag #JoyForAll
