Worship for everyone

Toll Gavel’s varied worship opportunities mean there is something for everyone. Beverley Methodist Circuit’s mission with its URC partners is to ensure that as many people as possible can come to know more about God, the Bible and the Christian faith through engaging with the many people who come to Toll Gavel United Church.

On Sundays, there is a traditional Methodist act of worship held in the Church (with coffee to follow) whilst Family Cafe Hour is a more relaxed affair with refreshments, toys, chat, a Bible story, child-friendly worship song/s and prayer in the Church Community Hall. Everyone is very welcome to either of our services.

On the first Sunday of the month, the Big Breakfast in the Church Community Hall is accompanied by The Butty Band playing worship songs for all to enjoy and join in with. As Toll Gavel is a Fair Trade Church, the food at Big Breakfast is fairly-traded. As Family Hour follows the Big Breakfast on the first Sunday, breakfast can be very popular!

Family Hour is led by our Junior Church Leaders with Mrs Cathy Beynon at the helm.

Holy Communion is celebrated in the Church on the first Sunday of the month.

There is a Circuit service every Sunday evening at 6.30pm; at least 2 of the evening services each month are held at Norwood (please click Services where you will find the Plan). On special occasions we may enjoy a ‘faith’ luncheon in the Hall. Every few months, evening worship takes the form of ‘Pudding and Praise’ with favourite hymns and favourite puddings!

The hymn books in regular use are Singing the Faith, Hymns & Psalms and Junior Praise.  The Butty Band and Esperion Singers contribute to morning worship in the Church from time to time.

Worship in the Church is led by our Ministers (Presbyters) or Local Preachers.

Our Presbyters are: Superintendent Minister, Rev Stephen Caddy;  Part-time Minister, Rev Peter Clark; Ministers in Full-time Chaplaincy Rev Liz Allison and Rev Martin Batstone; Retired Ministers Rev Eric Dyke, Rev Diane Finch and Rev David Wilkes.

Our Local Preachers are: Dr. David Foster; Mr John Turner; Mr Bryan Dodgson; Mr David Jackson; Mrs Christine Caddy: Dr Tim Allison; Mr David Eade; Mrs Kate Powell; Mr John Eldon; Mrs Linda Johnson and Mr Alister McClure.

We also have two Worship Leaders: – Mrs Elaine Turner and Mrs Christine Milburn
