New partner project

We launched our support for a new partner project at the end of January. This a project funded by All We Can – a Methodist charity specialising in development projects in some of the world’s most deprived communities.

This project is in Odissa, a state in the east of India. It is run by a group called READ – Rural Education Activities for Development. They are supporting Dalit and tribal communities and working to empower them through education, making them aware of their rights and giving them opportunities to launch small scale business enterprises to provide extra income.

READ works with communities to increase their knowledge of the law and policies that can help improve their lives. This has helped them to lobby for equal access to rights and opportunities on issues such as maternity and employment.  READ encourages women to form self-help groups where they can contribute to and access loans. Women are able to take part in training workshops covering a range of life skills.

We have committed to raising £1000 during 2017.

Other news from All We Can

LENT 2017 RESOURCE. All We Can have produced a 6 week or 40 day resources of reflections, activities and prayers that can be followed by individuals or used weekly in groups. It takes inspiration from words attributed to John Wesley:

‘Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.’

These words are a strong call to action and to take seriously our ability to make a positive difference to our world. There are copies available in church or from John Turner.
